The Teaching

God is not offended by your need for clarity. He is not up in heaven irritated because you asked Him one more time. Somewhere along the way, somebody taught us that asking God to confirm something is weak faith — that if you were really spiritual, you would have heard Him the first time and never looked back. That is not in the Bible. What God rebukes is not the woman who asks. What He rebukes is the woman who asks, gets her answer, and still refuses to move.

Today is not about getting a new word. Today is about settling the one He already gave you. Because here is what has been happening: God spoke, and then life started speaking louder. The silence spoke. The text message you were not supposed to see spoke. The empty side of the bed spoke. And little by little, you started renegotiating what God said every single time something contradicted it. So before we war for anything, we are going to go back and get the word. We are going to ask God to make it plain. And we are going to write it down so that when day two gets hard, you have something in your hand that does not move.

Gideon — Judges 6

When God found Gideon, he was hiding. Judges 6 says he was threshing wheat in a winepress — doing harvest work in a hiding place — because he was terrified of the Midianites. And the angel of the Lord walks up to a scared man crouched in a hole and says, "The Lord is with thee, thou mighty man of valour." Look at that. God did not address the man in the pit. He addressed the man He already saw. Gideon had done nothing yet. He had no army, no courage, no track record — and God called him mighty anyway. I need you to sit with that, because that is exactly how God is speaking about your husband right now. He is not describing who that man is today. He is calling out who He already sees.

And Gideon did not respond with faith. He responded with questions. "If the Lord be with us, why then is all this befallen us?" Then he said, "my family is poor and I am the least in my father's house." Then he asked for a sign — "shew me a sign that thou talkest with me" — and God gave him one. Fire came up out of a rock and consumed the offering. But Gideon still was not done. Twice more he came back with the fleece. The first night he asked God to make the fleece wet and the ground dry. God did it. The second night he said, "Let not thine anger be hot against me, and I will speak but this once" — he knew he was asking again, and he asked anyway. And God made the fleece dry and the ground wet. Three times Gideon asked for confirmation. Three times God answered. Not one rebuke in the entire chapter.

Now catch the words Gideon used, because this is the whole lesson: "If thou wilt save Israel by mine hand, as thou hast said." As thou hast said. Gideon was not asking God for something new. He was asking God to confirm what He had already spoken. That is the difference between doubt and due diligence. Doubt says maybe God never said it. Faith says God said it — Lord, help me stand on it. And here is why God kept answering: the confirmation was never for Gideon's comfort. It was for the fight. God was about to send that man into battle with three hundred men against an army too numerous to count, and Gideon needed footing that would not move when the numbers did not make sense. That is what you are asking for today. Not reassurance. Footing. Because what God is about to do in your marriage is going to require you to stand on something when everything you can see says otherwise.

Your Action Steps

Keep it simple. Just do these five things today.

"Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you."

And if today comes and goes and you do not feel like you received anything — do not be discouraged. God is not on your schedule. What He did not give you today, He can give you tomorrow or the next day. Stay in the fast. Stay listening. He is not silent — He is just not rushed.
